Year 3 Team

Welcome to Year 3, Beech Class!

I am Miss Jones and am delighted to be your class teacher! We also have Miss Mellor who will be in our class helping us on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons and Miss Thistlewood on a Thursday morning.

We have some exciting trips to look forward to in year 3 including a trip to the Liverpool Empire to watch a musical and a visit to Norton Priory to take part in some fantastic workshops based on our History topic on the changes in Britain from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Our other History topics include Ancient Egypt and Sumer and other early civilisations and what made them similar.

In Science we will carry out many investigations based on light, forces and magnets and whether humans and animals need a healthy diet. Our Geography topics include the United Kingdom, what climate zones are and why they matter, settlements and how our local area is changing.

In Year 3 you will receive homework every Wednesday which is due back the following Monday. This will include weekly spellings linked to the spellings we are learning in class and Maths or Literacy homework which will alternate each week. We will read some fantastic books in Beech Class linked to our learning, including The Boy with the Bronze Axe by Kathleen Fidler and There’s A Pharaoh In Our Bath! by Jeremy Strong. Whilst we are reading these books in class and many different stories during our Literacy lessons, it is also very important that you are reading at home so reading diaries will be checked every Monday. Once you have finished a book and your diary is signed by a grown up, you can move onto your next book.

We will have PE on a Monday and a Wednesday, so don’t forget your PE kits for these days please. Year 3 will participate in swimming for the whole of the spring term, every Tuesday. I am looking forward to our exciting year of fun and learning together!
